They are full of incompetent, arrogant people who are holding this country back. Any 'achievement' they have to speak of is too late and only comes after the technology is commoditized. Every product they manage to develop is technologically behind commercially available options.

If you ever visit NAL or HAL campus in bangalore, you will realize that the people are treating it as a retirement adobe. They are just living a relaxed stress free life at taxpayer's cost.

Go attend this year's Aero india summit and observe for yourself the pathetic work all these govt. agencies are doing. 

10 years ago in aero india, one agency was displaying a "new mobile platform for electronic warfare". It was just a telescopic antenna with some microwave transmitters mounted on a SUV. your neighborhood mobile tower has more EW capabilities than their 'platform'. OTOH, an israeli company had a display of Iron dome which is state of the art even today forget a decade ago. embarassing stuff as Indians.

If we need to progress like USA / China in technology we need to make govt sector companies accountable (HAL &amp; others).
People are paying taxes, we know can't expect good AQI, hospitals from Any Govt, but we expect these govt sector should work hard don't disappoint

See how ISRO took accountability and now even if there mission fails, nation is with them.

First, govt should not have any reservation in this sector, and allow field like bio tech, to be introduce for future innovation in defence.

Secondly, they have to be worked like private sector, people who are not good need to leave.

My arguments against the procurement of Tejas is this:


1. Familiarity and maintenance: The engine, gun and armaments are familiar to RMAF personnel, as those parts are present in F/A-18 C/D Hornets we use. And I suspect avionics too.




2. Combat proven: Well, F/A-50(or TA-50) have already been on combat since 2017, albeit ground attack missions in Marawi. Tejas are still ongoing trial(and rejected) by the Indian Navy by that time a year before that for being too heavy.




3. Radar: While both are using ELTAs AESA radars currently, both are offering their homegrown versions. However F/A-50 won in this part because the aircraft could be fitted with Northrop Grumman and Raytheon AESA radars. Besides, Korea have their homegrown semiconductors from Samsung. India had to rely on foreign imports for parts, and that ain't gonna be cheap either.



EDIT: Related to the armaments, HAL Tejas uses Russian(not viable at this point) and Israeli(political suicide) armaments, while KAI F/A-50 Block 20 currently uses US-made armaments, which we have access to. IDK other NATO armaments could fit though.

I'm sorry, but what's with Indians acting like the Tejas is some global usurper in terms of aviation? Given all the specs, I'd put it about on par with early 4th Gen fighters like the F-16A or Mirage 2000. Nothing about it is remotely competitive against modern 4.5 Gen jets like the F-15E, F-16C, Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale, etc. Like it isn't even up for debate. Like yeah it's cool India has a homegrown fighter, but this coping that it's even remotely competitive against even an 80s fighter is absurd.
